Cost of living in NYC is also 154% higher then average so they are STILL underpaid for the market which is the crazy part. The real issue is they probably only need about 5,000 staff. Half the guys i knew that work there have the easiest most low key / low effort jobs that any equivalent job with be 3x the amount of work for 30% less pay and much worse benifits

The most unrealistic part of that is thinking they would spend the money to knock down any buildings over there . They would just put new cabinets in or maybe just cabenit paint and change a few fixtures call it " Modern luxury updates" Change owners and building names and remarket the older buildings as NEWLY RENOVATED .

Those buildings are there to stay till they fall down ---which with the way they were made might actually be about 2045 lol

That was one of the original justifications for it among many others yes.

Now they are trying to say it can be up to 15c cheaper a gallon because of cost savings at the gas station. Never seen a more blatant lie form someone clearly lobbying for the gas companies.

You really think gas stations are going to pass on their cost savings at the gas pump and cut into their already small profit . Most station make more on the store then they do at the pump.

They will pass it then use the insurance going up even if it doesnt go up as an excuse to keep it high

Its not official but there is a bill out that last I read had just enough support. It still under committee review right now .

I think people started rallying against it and they stalled long enough now to have some numbers changes in the assembly so hoping it gets fully shot down next time.

My big worry is that since it means less workers and more money for gas station chains they will start lobbying FOR it and push it over the edge. Really really hope it gets shot down but still active as of right now

this is exactly why the "good" buildings have that "maintenance guy" that gets the free or dirt cheap apartment . But too many of them corpo buildings can't sacrifice a precious revenue stream apartment to do that anymore. You show me a building that has the maintenance guy the speaks ESL living for free in the basement for first floor apartment and ill show you a greatly run / maintained building lol.

Very well though out response while its mostly correct they do have the John wick deal - id say that was a extremely major picture. But for the most part you hit the nail on the head most of their schedule is 2-3 month commitments , overflow / local filming for L&O and lot of sound stage work for other productions.

It still does not mean its a hard sell. Alot of the people that work there including actors have started to prefer the locations over here - easier to get in and out of sometimes easier to get to all together.

also "Both their studios are also brand new, and their equipment rental division is pretty much non-existent in the area" Not true at all They have several massive facilities around here including one in Newark , with booms , cranes , lifts ,track carts and other specialized industry versions of all the above and they can barely keep them in stock long enough to do maintenance and send them back out . Again they did the entire productions equipment for the last and now the next john Wick .

Never heard anything more incorrect in my life . It's not a hard sell at all

They keep building more studios here and expanding because they are fully booked for almost 2 years with the space they have including major picture deals cinelease also has multiple studios in the area and nyc along with being the place a lot of those bigger studios rent their equipment from because they also have an equipment rental division .

Yes they did a show about jersey city but shot in Atlanta instead and only did B roll here but that's more the outlier then the mainline

When i found out the state had been running the BOE for years up till a few years ago and a lot of these people are legacy BOE members who were collecting 6 figure checks for only doing 1/3rd of their actual job i realized they probably all have to go .

You can't give people super easy 6 figure jobs then actually think they do the work after years of not having to do it.

They had to have local BOE members to handle staffing issues , compliance and HR stuff mostly

The ONLY reason it got better since 2016 is Covid. IT was nearly at a breaking point , then covid hit no more demand, coming out of covid 20% of the workforce is still WFH - huge relief on the transit system . However endless growth and buildings DTJC are putting it right back to where it was along with more and more companies going back to office. .

They used the signal issue to say they couldn't handle more trains in the system . Now they got the new signal system but they have not put more trains in still the same time gap / amount of trains - actually 2 less an hour then at former pre covid peak IIRC . I think with the new system they can at 4 more trains per hour (6 more total then currently ). They lost a ton of money during covid so they are trying to make it up with reduced service now
