Fun fact about the New England Telephone time & temperature number -- you could dial 637 and any four numbers. I remember a friend said to dial NERVOUS (which translated to 637-8687), but eventually I'd always just dial 637-1111 because it was easiest.

How does Waltham fit in this equation? Commute would not be convenient, and their schools aren't "good" like Newton and Brookline's.

Concord, Carlisle, and Lexington won't provide the commute that OP is looking for, nor are they walkable (yes, Concord and Lexington have "downtown" areas, but all three are definitely bedroom communities).

Interesting! Thanks for that. Do you know if other hospitals in the area have this, or is it only MGH? I've heard of this type of medical concierge service at top-tier hotels for people recovering from plastic surgery.

Back in the late 90s, Caroline was a guest on a call-in show on WBUR (The Connection with Christopher Lydon) on the subject of the “new” internet. I called in with a comment, and we had a brief on-air conversation. I had a positive impression of her as well.

Ah, so "hamlet" must be related to this?
As a word nerd, I enjoyed your post very much. Upstate NY has interesting names as well -- I learned that the town names ending in "-kill" are related to the Dutch term for "creek".

Whichever store is closest to you! Wegman’s and Roche Bros will probably be better quality than Shaws or Stop & Shop, but most kids will love any supermarket cake. Market Basket will also have plenty of good options.

When I think of pie and coffee, my first thought is the Agawam Diner in Rowley, if that's not too far north for you. Per Google, it's open till 9 on Thurs, Fri, and Sat nights, but I'd call first before heading there to confirm their hours.
