More than half of the Turnpike Authority budget is paid by out of state plates at the York toll.

EZ Pass does get you a discount over cash plus Maine EZ pass does have a volume discount program, but it takes a lot of trips (like 30 one way trips for a 20% discount and 40+ trips to get a 40% discount)

Who actually still pays minimum wage? Fast food places around me have signs up advertising $16., and they can’t find enough workers. If you pay minimum wage you deserve to be under staffed.

Right — how does a new build get a certificate of occupancy with no running water? Or is that not a thing in live free or die land?

Saw my first in Death Valley a little over a year ago, and finally saw one in Maine (NJ plates) in Bar Harbor this summer. Haven’t seen an R1S yet.

Yeah you’re right.
I’ve seen the X a few times in person but never ridden in one. I’ve only been in the model S and model 3. They were okay, but if I’m going to drop 100k I don’t think it would be on a Model X. I have a reservation for the Rivian R1S but I’m getting closer and closer to canceling—seems a bad idea to spend 90k on a car where the nearest service center is 4.5 hours away from a company that could go out of business during the useful life of the car (but I have a feeling the Amazon delivery can contract will keep the lights on until they are more established)

Isn’t that a model 3? They’re not anywhere close to 100k
Edit, no it’s the Model X. Definitely more than 100k

Snow hasn’t been sticking around on MDI very long recent winters. After a few thaw-freeze cycles, it’s not great snowshoeing (but often decent walking with microspikes). After a big storm conditions are perfect though.

Only way it would work is if Bangor were in the middle of a route they went to Quebec City or St John. Not enough riders to justify a Bangor end of line.

Restaurant Barn in Ellsworth usually has a decent selection of Lodge stuff.
Antique shops / flea markets can be a good source for good cast iron. I have some old cast iron that’s smooth as glass on the bottom and nothing sticks to them.

Reply to Maine is out of pediatric hospital beds. “As of Nov. 24, about 30,000 of the country's 40,000 pediatric hospital beds were available. Five states are at 90% capacity or higher. Currently the most overwhelmed state is Maine, at 109% capacity” by membaberry18
About a month ago there was a thread on the New Hampshire subreddit about a child with RSV that had to be taken to Maine Med because there were no pediatric beds available in NH.

I usually go to Quebec a couple times a year, but hadn’t been since the December before the pandemic hit. Just went last week, and it was great to be back.
I’m kind of interested in renting a furnished apartment for a month or two this summer, but I’ll have to lie at the border and say I’m not working while I’m there 😳
Hit me up if you want any info.

Reply to comment by Foghorn225 in Some Maine homeowners denied solar because there’s no room left on grid by DrMcMeow
The problem is when total solar generation exceeds the total demand. It can actually overload the grid. The utility companies need to balance generation with consumption, but if all the grid tied solar is outputting more than what can be used they’re screwed because they don’t have any other plants to shut down.
Currently net metering works because when homeowners generate more power than they use there are other customer nearby that can use the power.
If everyone has solar then we need grid-scale storage to dump excess solar into when it’s sunny and draw off at night.
I do love my rooftop solar, but the current situation definitely isn’t sustainable. At some point they’re going to dial back on the 1:1 net metering and people will start to need to install batteries to get full benefit from their solar.
