My vote is to drive all the way to Quebec City and go to Le Continental. Nothing like it in Maine. Been around since the 1950s, serving classic French food. The fillet mignon en boîte is flambéd tableside by a dude in a white tuxedo. Spend the night in the heart of old Quebec. Le Chateau Frontenac is a 3 minute walk away, and there are a bunch of less expensive boutique hotels within a 5 minute walk. Breakfast at La Buche in the morning (also nearby, super casual but a nice modern take on classic Québécois food and good mimosas).

November has been pretty terrible for me.

Produced 400kWh, consumed 1mWh (I do most of my heating with heat pumps)

I ran a deficit of 100kWh in October,

On track to offset around 88% of my electricity for the year. Need to thin out a few more trees and/or I think I can squeeze another row of panels using a horizontal (landscape) orientation at the top of my roof where they won’t have any issues with shading.

I run a surplus May-September. April is usually break even, and October can be break even depending on weather. November - March I run a pretty big deficit due to the heat pumps.

I just looked at my bill and it just says “distribution minimum charge”. For some reason last month’s bill was even less than usual- there was a minimum distribution charge for 7.48 and a minimum charge for “stranded costs” of -0.84 so my total bill was $6.64. It’s been over $8 every other month though.

As someone that lives here, November has been great this year. We had some absolutely awesome weather early in the month. Spent a little time walking around town on the weekends. Enough stuff was open and there were a few people out and about so it kind of felt like a normal town.

I’ve worked a remote job for a company outside of Maine. They applied for a Maine taxpayer ID and their payroll system withheld Maine income tax. When you work remotely you owe income tax to the state you sit in while you work.

The fact that I was their first Maine based employee actually delayed my start date by one week because it took them longer than they expected to get a Maine tax ID.

I don’t think their problem is reading comprehension— it’s that you write nonsense.

I don’t think any airlines are flying direct from Bangor to Boston anymore, so you need to go through LaGuardia. For a direct flight Cape Air from Trenton or Rockland would probably be the best options.

I believe the chemical engineering program is quite good.

Back when the paper industry was big in Maine, they invested a lot of money in the engineering school at UMaine — specifically to the chemical engineering department. That allowed to to build quite a good reputation.

The college of engineering has some beautiful new facilities thanks to some recent alumni and corporate donors.
