I went sledding down my roof deck stairs from that snow storm. Also.shoveled out about 2 dozen of my neighbors cars. The whole neighborhood came out and made a little party out of the digging.

They are also selling convenience. They don't build near grocery stores or wal marts. They build in small towns where there are few shopping options or where stores are relatively long drives away. I watched a video on dollar general a while back and they jave a very specific set of standards on where they build based on total population, population density and proximity to other retailers. They have grown massively over the last few years using this location model.

You basically just described harbor east which is like 3 blocks away.

Personally I think it needs to bring local businesses in either as permanent fixtures or as a rotating showcase. Make it something locals and tourists can enjoy.

Also yeah I get there are tons of things that mayor's, governors, presidents promise that can't be done for any number of reasons but, as you said, transparency is paramount. I'd rather someone say I screwed up then to keep spouting bullshit that will never happen. Although I do think I am somewhat rare in that as most constituents just want results or at least feel good speeches in lieu of results.

Well said.

What's funny is I've been guilty of the very thing I speak out against and that's expecting mayor's to make big changes in short amounts of time. It took decades to mess the city up this bad and for us to expect it to get better in any less time is naive at best.

My biggest complaint is that he doesn't seem to jave any overarching plans. He has done some good things and some bad things but I don't see a vision or plan as much as a guy who just jumps from thing to thing. I had hope when he brought in a city manager that he was on his way to removing himself from day to day minutia for a more comprehensive planning position but that seems to have not worked out.

What?

Southwest has the fastest boarding times across all airlines.

>Southwest Airline’s boarding method – no assigned seats, no assigned order – proved to be the fastest, at 14.07 minutes, which was a whopping 47 percent faster than back-to-front

Also boarding method and assigned seats have absolutely nothing to do with this issue and you are welcome to fly any other airline.

Do you honestly want one of the largest domestic airlines that employs tens of thousands of people to go out of business? Specificly an airline that has a hub locally where thousands are employed specifically because an entire wing of our airport was built to handle their traffic?

I dont know about you but I want as much competition as possible for air travel. Losing airlines means we get closer and closer to a monopoly and thats bad for consumers.

Make sure that extends beyond the footprint of your house. A lot of home insurance says it covers sewer but only means until it hits your exterior wall. Homeserve specifically covers the 10ish feet of pipe from your house to the street line which is an area the city does not cover.

100% and yet morons will constantly point to responsibility and culture as if those are things that can be forced on people regardless of their situation to somehow fix problems when in reality this issue is generations in the making and will take years if not decades to repair through investment, hard work, and giving people opportunity and hope.

If we really invested in kids right now and built up a massive after school program, and mentor programs and built community centers that offered meals and parent support we could see kids flourish. It wouldn't be cheap but in the long run it's a hell of a lot cheaper than what we are paying for cops and crime.

You can see examples of it all over the place where individual schools get an amazing principal that turns an entire community around just by offering support. Issue is we can't rely on individuals to put in all the time needed to that on their own.

https://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/26/us/tangelo-park-orlando-florida.html

https://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/08/nyregion/08principal.html#:~:text=Waronker%20speaks%20Spanish%3B%20he%20grew,11%2C%20he%20spoke%20no%20English.

First example is just a cash infusion that have hope to families and turned a community around in one generation.

Second example is a single man utilizing his time and skills to fix a failing dangerous school and get buy in from the community at large.

If we took an approach that combined both of these methods and built it out across the city maybe we could start seeing some positive movement away from crime.

It's the same bullshit idiots spout about schools and parents. "We just need responsible parents" as if there is some way to magically instill education, responsibility, drive, etc into people.

And that's always in response to we need to spend more on education. So their solution is don't spend any more to improve education or after school programs that will educate children and give them opportunities instead just change the "culture".

Matthew's isn't particularly saucy it's just like a pan pizza with a thicker crust. You can get the same pizza at barflys as well. Somehow years ago ownership split up and barflys has the same crust recipe.

It's definitely it's own thing but one of my favorite pizzas in the city.

I had a similar experience a few months back. Went out to places I haven't been to in years like Ropewalk and slainte and they were just dead. Riverwalk said their kitchen was closed at like 8pm and there were maybe 5 people in the bar. Slainte closed at midnight which I guess is the new norm in fells.

Not sure if this is what's happening but when they did my street (3ish years ago) they initially patched holes which were left for weeks and then came back and paved when they were done with a majority of the neighborhood.

I assume it's a lot more money and work to replace street by street then it is to wait and do multiple streets at once.

It's significantly less dystopian and verifies that the person driving is the one getting in trouble. With a camera all you can do is send a ticket to an address. If it's the wrong address, oh well, if someone was borrowing your car too bad, if the plates aren't registered uh oh.

I'm not one for a police state but enforcing traffic laws is a pretty low bar to ask of police

jabbadarth t1_j0i6asv wrote

Have police enforce traffic laws? Design better roadways that discourage speeding with physical impediments and speed focused design instead of cameras?

I mean people that intentionally run red lights will happily ignore tickets assuming their tags are even associated with them or their residence to be able to send the tickets.
