The thing with this show is that they have these big emotional moments for characters in ridiculous situations. They do a great job of sneaking that in.

Reply to Hi from Manchester, UK by Specialist_Flow7883
Hi Manchester, UK. Yes, sometimes there is some confusion. At my work we've received a CV from someone in Manchester, UK not realizing they were applying out of country. I've also done some community work where complaints from Manchester, UK residents were sent to organizations here in the US.
When I'm traveling out of the US and people ask me where I live, I tell them north of Boston. That's usually the nearest location that folks know globally. If I'm somewhere else in the US, I say I'm from New Hampshire, sometimes I have to tell them that's in the northeast of the US bordering Canada.
Manchester is the largest city north of the Boston metro area - that includes the US states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. So, yes, it's probably the most well-known Manchester - certainly in those 3 states and New England. I'm no sure if it's the most well-known in the US. There's a big music festival in Tennessee called Bonnaroo. That is held in Manchester, Tennessee. That alone might make that Manchester more well-known to other US Manchester's. However, NH has held the first presidential primary in the US for the last 100 years, giving our Manchester quite a bit of limelight every 4 years.

Check your zoning law for the town and specifically your property. Is it 1. zoned for business and 2. contain any clauses for business operating hours. The the town planner chat with you about zoning?
If it's zoned for that business and you guys bought the property next door, there's not much you can do about it.

If you're into history, you'll notice we have all these giant mill buildings along the Merrimack river. They used to be for manufacturing (at one time the longest contiguous mill buildings in the world), but now are used for hi-tech biz/manufacturing and education. If you want to learn more you can visit the Millyard Museum.
There's also the first Credit Union Museum (first in the US). The Currier Museum is also awesome as someone else suggested.
The Palace Theatre, along with it's mini-sister theater The Rex, is an historic theatre that's fun to see a show in (live music, comedians, etc at both with live plays/musicals at Palace).
Unfortunately it's been a bit too warm to send you to the ski/tubing slope or ice skating and too late in the season for Frank Lloyd Wright tours.
A walk around Livingston Park (Dorr's Pond) if you want a bit of exercise.
Strange Brew Tavern is a centrally located, relaxed bar that has live music often.
For amazing chocolate and other unique nibbles stop at the Dancing Lion on Elm St. If you need to bring home gifts for others, this is a great place to find it. They're on vacation until the 10th tho.

The shelter is full each night. They also have limited staff at the moment. City officials have asked the nonprofit running the shelter to allow tents inside their courtyard. The nonprofit doesn't have the staff to supervise a tent city on their property, nor do they have the bathroom facilities to deal with that many folks or want the liability of having this rough population on their grounds. The nonprofit is at max capability and have drawn a line.
City officials have created ordinances to make sure there's no more camping in the city parks. The homeless moved from parks to the sidewalk because as long as they're not blocking walkers, they can legally be on the sidewalk.
All our leaders need to come together to find better solutions. This is a statewide issue and with Manchester being the largest city, the homeless have been convening here from around the state. Notice that the folks being written about in the papers aren't from Manchester, they're from around the state.
Manchester has nearly 1700 housing units approved and in progress with around 200 of those reserved exclusively for extremely low income residents. What we need is transitional and supportive services housing. We do have some possibilities, but no leaders are pushing this forward at the moment and that's a shame. Our city and nonprofit leaders seem to be overwhelmed into non-action.

That’s not one of the best neighborhoods. That doesn’t mean you have to move though. Take the time to explore Manch a bit more and figure out where you might like to live in the city. At the top of this sub, there’s a stickied post about Manchester. There are some maps in there which show better/worse neighborhoods.
edit: oddly, I see that post stickied when I’m on the sub from my phone, but not when I’m on the sub from my iPad. Don’t know what’s up there.

Somebody took this dog. This dog was lost in a specific area in my neighborhood. Many people searched for this dog at the time of it's disappearance. I just don't believe the dog could of snuck out without being seen. Since it's near the disc golf course, a popular walking cemetery and some housing, I think either a random disc golfer or someone in the area has the dog. If you come across someone who has a dog that looks like this...and they got it this year...question them.

Manchester is what you make it. There are a lot of amazing things available to do right here in the city. You can choose to partake in those things...or not.
It also, like most cities in America right now, has a larger than usual group of folks experiencing addiction and mental health issues which has caused an increase in problems surrounding those populations like homelessness and drug related crimes like theft. Depending on where you are on Hanover, you may be at an increase at being around those drug related crimes. Lock your car doors and bike up.
Some folks in Manchester choose to focus on the negative issues and lament for better days when there weren't panhandlers on street corners. Others choose to roll up their sleeves and work to solve some of the issues and/or increase the qol in the city.
Welcome to the Queen city. I hope you don't hide in your apartment because of what the internet tells you. I hope you join some groups, maybe go tubing at McIntyre, and partake in all the positive Manchester does offer.

The expanse is based on a 9 books series. Basically seasons 1- 6 are books 1-6. Books 7-9 take place after a substantial time jump in the story and it makes sense to end the tv show there. The writers were involved in the series. I ended up reading the whole series after watching the show. The show makes parts of the books better and the books make parts of the show better. They really compliment each other well. The overall story line is exactly the same.
