Yeah, the removal and the amount of glass push the price up a lot, I guess.

As an update to my own question, I emailed Black Optix about my specific vehicle (minivan with existing tint on five largish windows), and they estimated an 'entry level price' of $750 to remove and replace with darker tint.

I'm not saying that's an unreasonable price, but it's probably more than I'm willing to spend on it at the moment.
