a lot of people don't look into these kind of things and just follow their gut. rent control is an easy sell to someone with only a surface understanding of how housing economics work.

i have already stated on here my suggestion for alleviating the housing problem, and that is allowing new triple/quad deckers to be built to modern code with modern amenities. add housing and increase upward mobility in one fell swoop. stipulate that they only be built and bought by local residents. get corporations and low bidders with deep pockets out of our housing market.

instead I'm afraid we will end up with some illogical solution that appeals to emotion to get support. rent control is one such idea.

more likely you found the one guy willing to take the hit on his metrics, especially if this is before the higgins st call center went repair-only.

working on commission is a bitch.

you're expecting the common sense thing of "service" but all customer facing positions are secretly sales positions. the rep was not rewarded for serving you but for generating revenue. the actual problems were almost inconsequential to the company and all they cared about was every call being an opportunity to wring more money out of the customer. you wanting to "downgrade" anything trashes the rep's numbers so they just keep making shit up and passing you off to the next guy. years ago they did not track lobby rep's repeat customers like they did for call centers so reps could just lie and pretend they never spoke to you and just hide from you if you came in again lol.

this was long ago and lots has changed. but in true charter fashion they have actually become even worse.

the wording is something to the effect of banning "any wooden tenement in which cooking will be done above the second floor".

for more info look up Prescot Farnsworth Hall and his "immigration restriction league". the short version is that 3 deckers represented upward mobility for "undesirables", though the record is made to appear that it was due to fire hazards and "ugliness".

no one is addressing the elephant in the room, which is that new triple/quad deckers would solve this problem but they are illegal because of some old bigoted anti-immigrant law that was put into place over 100 years ago.

imagine new 3 deckers with modern plumbing and electric tech with thicker floors for soundproofing and off-property parking and provisions for moving heavy items to upper floors.

they are a win for the developer who can sell them after renting them out a few years, they are a win for people who need affordable apartments, and they are a win for the new owners as they provide upward mobility by living onsite and renting the other floors.

there's no reason to be against them unless you envision the outdated model. a small neighborhood of new 3 deckers would provide a lot of what is lacking in this city.

time to do away with laws that were only enacted to be hostile to immigrants and start providing affordable apartments and promoting home ownership.

lots of people make decisions based on emotions and don't think things through at all. for exhibit a just look at our prison system. so much hot air blowing around about being tough on crime and don't drop the soap, and not a single one of the cretins who think this way are worried about the inmate's looming release date and how he will make his way in the world once he becomes our neighbor.

emotional bigmouths are one of our nation's major hurdles in achieving "greatness".

that target is insane. the customers do trash the place but there's always pallets of stuff blocking aisles and you can't even get your cart through. like a third of the aisles, day or night, year-round, are blocked with pallets.

a literal third of the store is inaccessible at any given time. it's lunacy. then on top of that the customers dismantle every shelf and rack of stuff like bulls in a china shop. shoes flung everywhere, clothes and accessories all over the floor, packages ripped open, discarded wrappers of stolen items, it's a real nightmare going there.

corporate should close it down and try again in a different spot because that place is totally out of control.

i recently learned that if a raccoon drops dead on your property they won't come get it unless you shovel it onto a public way.

I had to sterilize my garden spade after rolling a 25 lb corpse 5 feet to the sidewalk. they collected it that day.

another time I reported a raccoon hit by car dying in the gutter of lake ave and the corpse was there 4 days later so idk how they operate.

a coworker who i consider an honest guy was complaining about it. he got a ticket.

he said the cop would saunter into the road at the last second causing the driver to slam on brakes and swerve. coworker insisted he was not speeding and i believe him. the ticket was for failing to yield to pedestrian.

if that's the case they probably stopped to avoid being sued when they inevitably cause an accident.

these types of "gotcha" tactics are great for writing tickets and "raising awareness" but do absolutely nothing to improve safety and in many cases make things less safe.

it could also be a worker stealing fish and fudging inventory.

if you've ever worked someplace where you make these packages and stickers, you know that genuine errors usually involve the wrong code resulting in a different unit price, not the actual weights of only a few packages.

if it were a calibration issue they would all be off weight.

i don't regularly blow lights and such, but you bet your ass i do it in front of cops to make exactly that point. they are there for decoration and are useless. it's not even brave because they are useless.

prime example is morning traffic on belmont at the high school. a cop sits in a cruiser at the bus stop facing the "wrong way" toward the intersection and flashes lights at people who get aggressive. what the fuck is that fucker going to do if i run that red and flip him off? nothing. it's theater for stupid people and i don't want to fund it.

i do the same at construction projects. I'll even toot the horn and wave at them. they just go back to texting or whatever.

I'm tired of paying for services not delivered. we don't need cops to sit around having a "presence" when all they need to do to get paid is exist.
