Because it's easier for this person to be xenophobic and deflect on the real issue, which is rampant domestic abuse that is underreported and largely unpunished.

You have no idea what this guy has saved. The average doesn't take into account the majority of elderly people in this country living in poverty on a fixed wage. Many of them lose everything during the Great Recession. You're also neglecting to take into account the kind of rent he'll be seeing from any other apartment in this city. That money would disappear quickly.
This'll be us one day, only we'll likely have even less whole rents will be higher.

This is an elderly man on a fixed income who is by all rights in poverty (like most elderly people in this country) and has been lower income most of his life. It's not hard to feel bad for an elderly man on a fixed income being forced out of his home.
By the way, 150k won't get you much unless he moves out of the city entirely. When you realize that someone his age could live more than 10-20 years, that's a pitiable sum.

It'll put criminal records on domestic abusers. Good. They deserve it.

Did you forget the part where a tiny human is being carried in the stroller and the adult not only has to single handedly fold up the stroller but has to hold a child (an infant to a toddler) on the other hand, all in a massive rush near the road or on a moving bus? That's incredibly unsafe. There's no reason we should be asking parents or guardians to do that.
Sometimes we have to be human beings on public transit and put aside a tiny amount of convenience and comfort to help people who need it.

No, that's on cops. Cases are built by cops and now they collect evidence (or don't). The DA can't do anything when presented with the corrupt garbage NYPD presents them, before they send their best to lie on the stand only to lead to cases being thrown anyway.

Thanks to the Taylor Law all public employees in this state are barred from striking. Which is a real shame for almost all public workers. I'll exclude NYPD and Department of Corrections because we've allowed them to get away with a work stoppage for years.

I suspect they don't know that each borough has its own elected DA and Alvin Bragg isn't the only DA for all of us.

This. There was a story the other day about how the Bronx DA office is down over 100 attorneys plus additional administration staff and are on the verge of trying to strike (they can't legally, but are threatening). The justice system is overburdened and way too slow. Rikers is as bad as it is because people can be trapped there for YEARS without a trial. It was never fair that, faced with the same slow system, some people could buy their way to release from jail and others were doomed to stay there because they couldn't afford bail.

He's waving the bloody flag. He's drumming up support using fear and hysteria the way other conservatives do. Fear is a very powerful tool for politicians.
It worked so far. But eventually it'll stop working and he's stuck with a perception of crime that he can't fix because it's not real.

Then keep your car wherever you live. Park it there. Take the train or bus in. Problem solved.

Yes, please. It's a beautiful area but the weird islands that pedestrians have to walk between to get anywhere feel very dangerous.

We shouldn't be electing judges anyway. Us trying to get judges to declare their political party and run on that ticket is sick.

Airbnb, like all gig economy businesses, was propped up by venture capitalists for nearly a decade to keep prices unnaturally low. Well, now that's done and a bunch of home owners sunk their time and $$ into a dying business as people realize hotels are now cheaper and with more amenities and security.

The agencies who handle hiring (like OMB) are also seriously understaffed. It's a funny cycle at this point.

Yes. This is happening everywhere. Meanwhile, on the delusional side track, the Adams admin is pushing this "customer service" and "efficiency" plan as if any of this can be accomplished with the massive staff shortfall. It's not just staff that leave, it's all the institutional knowledge they take with them.
