I think unknowns can do a great job when they are cast properly. I’d imagine Amazon blew most of its budget on securing the rights, so they didn’t want to spend more on known names.

The thing is, good acting is good acting. What you get with a name brand is recognition — it’s marketing. The real trick is to cast one or more out of work big names from the past. You get recognition and experience that way for a lower cost.

If you can even get two day shipping from prime. Most stuff takes a week’s worth of “handling” before it even gets to the shipping stage now.

Edit: I’m Not saying Amazon should crack the whip. Amazon warehouse workers are already overworked and underpaid. Just wishing they’d drop the pretense that shit’s gonna show up in two days if you pay for prime. Just call it “free shipping” and be done with it.

Problem with Amazon isn’t streaming. Streaming is an add on. People have returned to retail shopping, and Amazon’s quality reputation is in the toilet due to large amounts of continuously rebranded junk and counterfeit merchandise. It is morphing into Wish.com headquartered in Seattle.

If the cops were corrupt, it might work. Make it a more gritty reboot about cops on the take. Lots of drugs, mafia, and cash.

The cinematography would have to be a character as well, to bring some style to the show that would be an updated substitute to the flash and pastels of the original. Maybe something more modern noir.

And the soundtrack would be important, too. It was a huge part of the original show, and pop stars of the day often made guest appearances as characters.

So I think it could be done, but it would have to be done with an updated spin. I have clearly given way too much thought to this.

It amazes me that it makes enough money to stay on the air at this point. Their ad buys must be part of a Viacom package deal, or the infomercials in the middle of the night are still enough to keep the lights on. It’s pretty much devolved into a broadcast subchannel.
