I moved here from a larger metro as well and have found that for the most part, people are friendly. Get ready for a lot of mediocre food. The upside, it makes you REALLY appreciate a good restaurant when you find it. We don’t have high end retail, you gotta go to KC or St. Louis for that stuff. Our weather is very moody, but we have nice seasons.

People say “oh Springfield is going downhill, so much crime, traffic, etc” but those folks have never been in a city. I see more good here than bad and think Springfield is a great place to hang your hat.

Live on the South Side, can confirm. Also folks here have a false sense of security and do stupid things and act surprised.

“How dare someone steal stuff out my garage I left open all day!? For shame’”

“I can’t believe someone would steal my valuables from an unlocked car? What is this town coming too!?”

That’s a good point to vote yes. With all the attention, the developer has faced more scrutiny and I’m sure the project is better because of it (in terms of community impact being lessened).

At least it’s not going to be “Sequiota Towers” or something 😆

We need to rethink single family zoning in general. It’s wasteful and is one of the leading reasons we have no affordable housing. We need more ADUs as rentals for young people and also the elderly, as well as duplexes).

I don’t like the idea of apartments right there BUT the whole argument against it comes across as disingenuous. It’s rich folks, down the road, not wanting their property values impacted. Don’t get me wrong, that’s fine if it’s your motivation, but just be up front about it.

If I vote no, it’ll be because of traffic right there at the intersection.

We need safe overnight parking lots specifically for vehicle dwellers. I’ve seen YouTube videos about that sort of thing popping up in larger metros. Not sure the NIMBYs would let it happen though, but you’d think it would be better to have one or more safe spaces rather than people parked on random streets. 🤷‍♂️
