I despise En Su Boca. Every time I’ve gone, it’s been incredibly underwhelming despite everyone raving over it.

Anyway, back to sleep for a bit longer then I’ll start my day!

Cat snuggles, gym, and braving post-holiday crowds for some groceries. My mom’s car broke down in Maryland yesterday so I guess we’re waiting to see what’s up and when we can grab it.

Just got back to Richmond after driving for 8 hours (was supposed to be under 4.5 hours). I’m drained and happy to be home and done with family time for a bit. Gonna make dinner, grab my book, and curl up with my cat.

Heading two hours further East in PA in a bit to see more family. This is the part where I start getting hit with grief as I’d normally be seeing my dad during this leg of travel but he passed 4 years ago.

Currently 1° in PA (“feels like” of -17°) and haven’t left my sister’s house all day for obvious reasons. Keep checking the cam I have on my cat back at home in Richmond - can’t wait to be home in a few days to just relax with him. (Heat is on and he’s in my top floor apartment so I know it’s toasty there for him). Started my book of the month pick for December this afternoon so hoping to make some headway on that tonight. Family is watching a movie and I have too short of an attention span so I’m in the guest room opting out with a glass of wine.

Finished Christmas shopping yesterday so all I have left is wrapping and some cricut crafting.

Getting my holiday depression this week - dad passed a few years ago so this time of year just feels sad. I really only find joy in giving gifts to my mom and siblings.

Anyway, forgot about voting this morning and woke up too late to do so - going to head over after work!

The RVA mag Instagram page called them out this morning for a definitive answer which was an odd move

Most elementary schools keep all of their old yearbooks - I wonder if you could give JB Fisher a call and arrange a time to pop in to sift through old copies.

If you grew up with Ukrops, obviously the grocery store itself has long gone, but they have a Market and Food Hall close to the University of Richmond.

Edit: there’s a richmond_before_now Instagram page that might be able to help too - he indicates the pictures themselves are from 2003-2016, but could possibly serve as a resource to bring back old memories.

A new job (which I’ve secured), less car troubles for my ‘12 Forester that I adore, and to begin climbing out of my mountain of debt. Clear skin would be great, too. Stopped my rosacea medication because of pricing and all hell has broken loose.

I got mine at Target- lots of availability and it took only 5 minutes! Plus I’m always there anyway so it forced me to stop putting it off. Downside: then I shopped.

Oof, went through this with my mom’s cat a few months ago. I have major regrets about avoiding petting her because she was an oddball and skiddish. So sorry for your family’s loss of Chica!

Gonna take a stroll to grab a coffee in a bit, kinda in the mood for a more indulgent drink than my regular iced coffee.

Getting my booster this afternoon - I must’ve missed a round of boosters at some point because I’ve only gotten the one, last December. Whole family has had covid recently so just doing my part to protect The Grandparents in a few weeks. Anyway, I don’t handle needles well so I’ll be a full grown adult borderline in tears. Can’t wait!

Have a job interview today - I don’t get nervous for them but I’ve had some medication issues lately and my brain is foggy. Then back to the office where I will catch up on my freelance resume writing (including for someone in this sub)!

Went on Friday for friends/family event. I think it has some potential but it was chaotic while I was there. I assume they’ve been pushing these events to try and get their footing before Wednesday’s grand opening.

The beer wall is small (though I do appreciate the chilled glasses), and you’re looking at about $8/beer. Selection isn’t great since it’s so limited.

Bartenders were nice, though we only had to get the beer-wall wristbands so not a lot of interaction. So a few issues I discovered with the wristband concept: you hold it up to the tap you want to pour from so it can “unlock” and associate the pour with your card on file… if you’re even remotely on the short side, you will likely need to take your wristband OFF to reach. (I’m 5’2” and this was annoying).

Then when you close your tab you’re able to add a tip, etc. but that’s up to you if you want to tip someone else when you poured your own beer.

Didn’t get to enjoy any of the food- the head chef had reportedly walked out and everything got shut down before 8pm. I did snag a cone from the gelati celesti stand but you could tell they were absolutely OVER having to scoop ice cream since that was the only non-kitchen food option. You can order via tablet kiosks near the food stands, or via the toasttab QR codes on the tables.

There’s a photo booth-ish spot as well but we didn’t get to try it since one of the investors’ families spent roughly 30 minutes having a photo shoot since they had a large family.

There’s also a karaoke room but I’m not sure how that works since it almost looks like it’s for private parties.

We played one of the 9-hole mini golf courses and it’s definitely oddly designed as already mentioned. Lots of runaway golf balls. But from what I’ve heard, it’s designed to be “instagrammable.” We had fun, regardless. It wasn’t competitive, and we didn’t care much if the ball went off course since it gave us a good laugh.

They also had succulents on the tables near the beer wall and those are NOT going to last long. If you’re into propagating, look no further.

The virtual golf area was broken, on our visit. So I didn’t actually see where it was or how it works.

We did have short interactions with several employees while there and from those, it was a good experience. I really hope the scheduling/management issues get worked out because it seems like they have some really great people on staff.
