this is just a reminder that the turnpike authority is a completely separate entity from the department of transportation and does not take in any state tax money. it issues its own bonds and designs its own projects and pays for all of this with your ever increasing tolls. this isn't passing a value judgement on how money is spent (although it's time for the njta to take a serious look at how it budgets things), but before you come in hot with "for that amount of money, we could have x, y, and z!" remember that the njta for its faults is a self sustaining thing so this isn't taking money away from another project that you think matters more.

larry higgs from the ledger is really the only reporter who regularly covers transportation issues.

the dates are never fixed anyway. weather and other issues do occur which leads dates to slip and there's not a ton anyone can always do about it.

those days are dead and not returning. in fact, one side has slid even further to embracing fascism pretty openly and just declaring that any electoral result that is not a win for their side is obviously illegitimate. there's no coming back from that, and even republicans who aren't bought into the worst ideas still care more about their party's power than accepting some time in the wilderness by backing the opposition until they can extinguish this movement and come back and try again. there's no other way to look at it.

i remember my mom getting the sunday ledger for years, mostly to get the coupons that were in the sunday paper. i really do remember that fun comics section with the bright yellow "COMICS" header at the top. blondie and peanuts were always the two above the fold comics in those days. c&h got prominent space on the front too if i remember. and yeah family circus got a lot of space, as did hagar the horrible. getting your hands on that comics section on a sunday morning was something to look forward to.

the one on tv with the farmer is the same, but i fear it will be effective. i think their campaign thinks it too, because he's not basically out to slander malinowski like he did two years ago.

his "platform" is basically generic republican drivel.

  • "end wasteful spending" without identifying what he thinks is wasteful spending (just that malinowski did pelosi's bidding and voted for it. so was it the covid relief bills, or the infrastructure bill, or what?)
  • "promote american industry" (you know who's already done that? malinowski, who voted for the chips act, for example)
  • "support middle class tax relief" (insert the kek laughing gif here because we all know that he means in name only while his donor class friends continue paying zero in taxes)
  • "back energy independence" (which is another generic republican talking point that basically boils down to be friendly to the coal industry)

and that's it. at least he wants you to think that's it. don't forget he has an unlinked portion of his website here that he will put in fundraising emails but is too fucking chickenshit to just take ownershp of, because it's the same chickenshit buzzwordy things that "modern conservative" voters want to hear, but he knows doesn't go down well with more moderate types that make up a lot of this district.

seriously, for the love of god, if you live in the 7th (and if you're not sure if you are, look up your address in the state's tool and it will tell you your congressional district, make sure you're registered, and vote against this clown.

sadly it was because he barely beat kean last time around. it sucks. i am mostly happy with the work malinowski has been doing in the district, but we're likely stuck with kean jr next year who will just vote for whatever bullshit national r's tell him to.
