If you want to get really depressed about the lack of pedestrian crossings here pull up Pittsburgh on google maps. So many pedestrian crossings on all the bridges there.

Newark generally has poor lighting in most spots I’ve found. Very dim and dark in most of the city.

Just go to Newark Penn and take NJ transit directly to NY Penn. It’s like twice the price of the PATH but a more direct trip so worth the increased cost IMO
