Ok and where does it say “the US has a definite nationwide shortage that will result in the whole country not having diesel” like everyone is claiming? They are explaining that while yes there may be some shortages any true run outs will be isolated and short lived. The entire paragraph before your cherry picked quote more or less says that on the micro level all we will see is price increases. That’s because the supply isn’t nearly as dire as even they are making it sound.

BUT, we still have not clarified whether you are here to discuss natural gas or diesel. Two very different stories.

Oh and here's one from Mansfield Energy directly where they are not shouting from the rooftops about how we will be out of Diesel imminently:

But do please tell me more about this impending diesel outage. But before we do let me once again remind you that natural gas and diesel are two very different things.

BRUH, read this title in this link that YOU shared. IDK why the actual article title is now different.

https://www.newsweek.com/us-only-has-just-days-diesel-left-before-supply-runs-out-1754851

I'm also just realizing most of what you shared is about Diesel which is NOT the same as NG. Diesel is more or less the same as heating oil. The shortage of Diesel is ENTIRELY fabricated. It doesn't work that way. Diesel and other petroleum products are more or less distilled from crude oil. So while there can be staffing/supply chain issues that affect our ability to distill diesel, it's not like diesel is disappearing from the planet. Natural gas is a bit different because of how it is acquired, and could have more supply issues because of that, but it is well documented that the fear mongering around diesel is just that - fear mongering.

I literally asked a question. It is a fact that diesel is NOT running out, and that rumor mongers are spreading that rumor for their benefit. I don't use natural gas and do not keep up with the data behind it, so my post was a genuine question. But hey, thanks for assuming and claiming I'm doing something that I'm not.

Anyway, if we are not in danger of running out like you indicate then one of the links you shared and the link here are pretty clearly making a bit bigger of a deal out of it then seems to be necessary. They could just as easily share these facts without being all NEW ENGLAND WILL RUN OUT OF NG IN DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

Just read the comments here and you will see that there is much more to this story than "new england doesnt have enough NG" - and its dubious whether this quoted shortage would actually affect us or not since most of our grid is not NG dependent.

Definitely not. I have a neighbor who buys all his wood and he will buy seasoned BUT he buys it in like April so it still has at least 6mo to season before burning.

I just bought two cords of seasoned for NEXT winter assuming it would be wet af. Tested a bunch late one night and they all tested 17-19% which generally means they are 25% on the inside. Was pleasantly surprised when I split them and found the inside to be just as dry.

My firewood guy told me that with the prices of fuel going up the prices of wood are also going up - you have to remember that everything used to create firewood uses fuel (chainsaw, firewood processor, skidder, excavator, log truck, etc...). His prices went up $100/cord to $300/green $350/seasoned delivered within 15miles of Georgia. Pretty good deal.

The bigger thing is finding someone reliable. I only bought wood this year because I have a 4mo old who makes the time consuming task of firewood processing next to impossible. The first year we burned wood I got absolutely hosed on firewood - ordered a cord from a local guy who was recommended on facebook. He delivered a pile of wood that was completely ice encrusted. By the time I finished stacking the barely split wood (HUGE chunks needing to be split another time or two), it was only half a cord with the other half being random pieces of shitty kindling and ice chunks. We literally had to thaw wood in our basement for 3-4 days before we could burn it, and then it wasn't even worth burning because it wasn't even remotely seasoned. The icing on the cake was the fact that about half of the wood had been dragged through manure so it smelled like shit and was covered in...well...shit.

It's getting a bit late for seasoned wood. You may get lucky and find someone who really does this a lot and has a lot of seasoned wood on hand but in general "seasoned" to most firewood guys means "i split this a month ago"

My phone number is a number you would easily make up if trying to make a fake phone number. The result is that two people in VT use my number for all kinds of shit and I get all kinds of texts targeted at them. Well apparently someone in Minnesota has started using it too as well as PA because I get no fewer than 3 MN/PA political texts per day.

Ugh, I’m sorry someone so close to you is like that.

My dad definitely has the potential to be like that but has tended more toward the liberal side of things. He will watch Fox News for the sole purposes of screaming at rhe TV for a few hours. I’m honestly amazed he didn’t have a heart attack during the Trump administration.

The funny thing is that sometimes he will pull out a SUPER ignorant and conservative point of view on something. I don’t get it lol.

I really think a lot of it comes from the older generation just taking what society feeds them on their TV channels of choice. I can’t even tell you the last time I watched cable news - instead I read a variety of mostly unbiased news sources that I seek out myself, or read stuff from a number of maybe biased sources and create my own understanding based on all the facts. Our folks are basically “they said it on TV so it has to be true!”

Yup. Makes it pretty easy to navigate if you are even slightly politically engaged/informed. Generally I already know before talking to them if they are this type. And as Im sure you know, there's no point in debating those topics with them. Especially if you have any sort of relationship with the person.

Yeah, /r/burlington has a whole slew of issues, /r/vermont hasn't been as bad but does seem to be heading that way.

And you're right - the amount of people I know with absurd political beliefs in VT is wild. IDK if they don't vote or what but you're right, outside of the more populated areas you will especially find folks with VERY interesting political beliefs.

Hell yeah!

Yeah the reason he hangs with me is because we have a really strangely setup house where delivery people never know where the hell to drop stuff. The closest door to our driveway is our detached garage door so they often leave stuff there. I also happen to smoke in my garage right around UPS time...well one day he delivered something and i heard a "sniff, sniff, sniff, DAAAAYUMMM man that smells good!" Look toward the door and see him cheesing giving me a thumbs up. Now anytime he's delivering he comes right to the garage and hangs out for a few. Sometimes I'm up in the house and I can see the disappointment on his face when he goes to the garage and I'm not there lol.

Usually my dog goes and hangs out in his truck while we chill in the garage lol. He often finds a Chewy box to molest.

Works nicely to be so nice to your UPS guy - we have a parcel locker down at the end of our private road but he always makes an attempt to deliver straight to our house unless weather prevents it. We had a baby this year which meant TONS of huge and awkward things getting delivered (I'm looking at you 170lb crib). The dude literally dragged it into my house for me despite that very much not being an expectation. A week later a 100lb changing table again and a substitute UPS dude left it in a mud puddle in pouring rain at the end of my road.
