Yeah if youre already tapping might as well boil at 1.8 for sure. Will have to check what my neighbors are seeing. I could hear them working today so I know they’re tapping but don’t know if they are running yet or not. Lots of work to do after that big Christmas blow. Luckily they leave most of it right by the trail for me to scavenge for firewood. They tap nearly 2k of my trees do we’ve got a good relationship

BUT, the sap isn't the same. 1.2% sugar right now vs 2% in the spring means MUCH more energy intensive to get product from your sap.
whaletacochamp t1_j33js62 wrote
Another thing is that the sap right now is SUPER low in sugar content. During usual sugaring season the sugar content of the sap is usually about 2%. Right now it's about 1.2%. That means that it takes nearly twice as much energy to boil the sap down. BUT, you are left with a lighter (both in color and taste) syrup.
For this reason you will see all but the largest producers holding off right now. The math just doesn't check out. Hell I have two of the biggest producers in state literally in my back yard and neither of them bothered to get going for this run. I think they are thinking of starting to tap just to be ready for what seems like it will be an early season.

Their website pretty clearly answers this question.
Much like many questions that tourists come here to ask.

For sure, but a single dispensary in your town would have to do $300k in sales to get $3000, that’s a lot of sales to cram into 4 months. Definitely not impossible, but I’d bet most full time residents that smoke regularly have their own connection or grow their own. So you’re really relying only on tourists.
South hero is probably the only town where this would stand a chance. Honestly would be a brilliant idea to open one next to that bait shop on Rt 2 headed to the islands. 99% of tourists headed to the islands via VT have to drive that road plus most of the dudes buying bait smoke too. Hmmmmm
BUT, that’s not a grand isle town!

Depending where you are in grand isle county I’d be surprised if a 1% sales tax on a dispensary in your town would even bring in a few thousand.

No offense but a) the taxes are already very publicly available for your information and b) that is not even remotely how these taxes work

Same, the one in Cambridge really surprised me since that’s like 15min from my house, and never imagined having one so close.
Haven’t been there…but still is kinda cool.

Absolutely. For a variety of reasons. But I’d say, since VT is a tourist destination, the VT sub probably tends to have more out of staters than other state subs. It’s an interesting dynamic

I just gave someone shit in another thread for claiming that the Stowe rec path is quiet, now I'm just realizing that to most people it IS quiet.
Unfortunately a lot of the folks who come to enjoy the quiet also ruin it...
Speaking of Maple scented insanity, I was on I89 yesterday and watched someone with ZERO cars anywhere near them (I was a solid 1/4 mile behind them and we were the only two cars within eyesight) switch to the left lane for zero reason whatsoever. No obstruction, no one to pass, no danger, no sign, just decided randomly between Milton and Georgia that they wanted to be in the left lane doing 63. I crept up at about 70 and passed on the right and the nice older gentleman gave me a pleasant wave as I glanced at him perplexed. Kinda like those absolute goofballs who will literally stop the flow of traffic to let you out into it - and not like let you out into slow bumper to bumper traffic but like full on stop a busy roadway that is flowing at 40mph to enthusiastically wave you out into the road and then feel fucking AWESOME about the good deed that they just did (nevermind the two fender benders and multiple delayed people that resulted from it).
