I have been on the same situation so I know firsthand that it is not a simple or arbitrary process and I would not paint all mental health processes with the same brush. I was satisfied in my experience that the process tries to restrict people from being abused by more powerful people. The fear is that the police can start summarily making unwanted people disappear from society because they are inconvenient

This is more criteria than most people are giving in the comments. I do not disagree with you, but I would like to see some very strict guidelines that are publicly debated, agreed upon and adjusted over time. Many of these people have no advocates so there needs to be oversight and transparency. We cannot turn this into a system of locking people away without fair trials.

I don’t see the joke. Was the person who violently assaulted your loved one not punished?

When they assault people they are arrested charged and sentenced appropriately. Sounds like you are suggesting we arrest homeless people who have not committed any crimes because of your fear they may one day commit a crime?

This is true and I hadn’t considered unoccupied spaces when we were talking about businesses. And it’s true that when one area of a sidewalk is not shoveled it creates a hazardous situation where your forced to wither double back or climb into the street or continue over the snowed area. When there are areas left unshoveled they often turn into uneven icy pathways from people walking over them, which creates a hazard that remains long after snow is melted

Just that in my experience in nyc businesses do a pretty good job of shoveling the snow. They are already incentivized by wanting customers to come in but not wanting them to fall and hurt themselves and possibly sue. There are certainly weather events that test our abilities but generally it doesn’t seem to be a major issue in nyc.

Fines should be proportional. I know wealthy people who park wherever they want because the fines are negligible to them. The same fines may be debilitating in the short term for a person living paycheck to paycheck. The point of fines are not just punitive, they are a deterrent. The same should apply to businesses. The fine should hurt to prevent the unwanted action from ever occurring. That being said i don’t think businesses need the incentive to shovel the snow. This seems like misplaced energy

It’s not that he “killed grandparents” He lied and falsified numbers to hide the level of death and suffering caused by his directives. Nobody expects a governor to always make a correct choice when it’s not clear what the right choices are. But we do expect some level of honesty about the situation.

It’s amazing that he can recognize the governors race effected down ballot votes without realizing a major reason for that is that the democratic governor was impeached for sexual abuse after a disturbing pandemic performance. Andrew Cuomo is a bad person and does not have a clear or unbiased perspective to be commenting on this election. In a just world he would giving this interview from a pay phone in jail

Crime is worse in Florida than in New York, but it wasn’t an issue for the governor race there. The nyPost has played out electorate like a fiddle.

I just know a number of people who have spent time there for non violent crimes. Granted, not so much recently but within the last decade
